Which firm fits your ERP project?
Before comparing vendors, distinguish three assignments: selecting an ERP, implementing a selected platform, or recovering a troubled project. An independent advisor represents the buyer. An implementation partner configures a platform. A software publisher sells its own product and may also implement it. None of these roles is universally better. They solve different problems.
Disclosure: PlanAxion publishes this guide and is among the firms listed. This is neither a performance ranking nor an exhaustive market survey. It deliberately compares different service models using publicly available company descriptions reviewed in October 2026.

Seven criteria for a fair comparison
- Role and independence: does the firm represent the buyer, resell licenses or sell implementation services?
- Platform coverage: which ERP systems can the team genuinely compare, and which are excluded?
- Industry fit: can the team demonstrate processes like manufacturing planning, distribution or financial close?
- Named delivery team: who will actually perform discovery, configuration, testing and production rollout?
- Total project cost: are licensing, implementation, migration, integrations, internal resources, training and stabilization included?
- Comparable evidence: will each bidder work with the same requirements, demo scenarios and evaluation criteria?
- Governance: who approves scope changes, owns risks and settles disagreements with the implementation partner?

Choose the partner according to your stage
Before you select software
If several platforms are viable, start with independent ERP selection: define business requirements, demonstration scenarios, evaluation criteria and comparable cost assumptions. A vendor demo is not a neutral recommendation.
When your ERP platform is already selected
Compare implementation partners with experience on that platform and in your sector. Request named consultant profiles, exclusions, testing and acceptance criteria, and a clear definition of client responsibilities.
When a project is late or over budget
An independent ERP assessment can establish the facts, separate scope and execution issues, and help leadership decide whether to correct, recover or replan the project. Explore client-side ERP audit support.
What does ERP consulting cost?
A software subscription, an independent advisory mandate and an implementation project do not share one meaningful price range. Ask each firm to specify deliverables, named staff, assumptions, exclusions and internal resource commitments. A lump-sum quote without that detail is not a defensible comparison.
Frequently asked questions
Can an ERP integrator compare multiple products?
Some can advise on systems they know, but ask which software publishers they work with and which options they can truly evaluate. The commercial relationship matters more than the word “consultant.”
Should we hire an advisor before choosing an ERP?
When several platforms remain possible, independent requirements work can help prevent a premature choice. If the platform is fixed, prioritize the selection of a capable implementation partner and appropriate governance.
How should we compare two ERP proposals?
Provide identical business scenarios, data requirements, scope assumptions and costing instructions. Compare exclusions, named delivery staff and responsibilities, not just the proposed total.
Is there one objectively best ERP consulting firm?
No. The best fit depends on your processes, software landscape, risks, delivery capacity and the decisions your team needs to make.
